Cute Things I keep Around: Hello Kitty

I like having a lot of cute in my life. Without fail, I’ll either find a way to source a pink major household appliance or figure out how to make something cute.

I started this blog over a decade ago when I wasn’t really in a position to be my most authentic self. The fact that younger me planted this and didn’t delete it still means something to me. So now I want to actually keep it going.

Aside from the DIY projects I’ve made and will keep making, I’ve also collected a lot of random cute things. They don’t really get much play, so I want to use this space I created years ago to actually share them.

This is the first post in a series where I’ll highlight things I’ve collected that I want to show. This one happens to be four Hello Kitty items. It won’t always be Hello Kitty, but it will always be cute.

HK Kimora Lee Simmons Diamond Ring

Years ago, my sister gave me a diamonique Hello Kitty necklace designed by Kimora Lee Simmons. I wore it a lot, and then I remembered Google exists and went looking for more from the collection.

It was a limited run, so most of what I found was secondhand. That’s when I learned Kimora also designed diamond pieces. I love yellow gold, so seeing Hello Kitty’s bow in gold sold me immediately.

I was able to hunt this ring down for a price I could afford. I did have to get it sized down, but it was worth it.

Hello Kitty Con Rhinestone Mirror from Sephora

Hello Kitty turned 40 in 2014, and I flew to LA for Hello Kitty Con. I definitely spent too much money.

I bought this mirror there instead of at my local Sephora because I wanted the chance for Yuko Yamaguchi, Hello Kitty’s lead designer for 46 years, to sign it. And she did!

I still haven’t taken it out of the box. Maybe that’s my next move.

Onch Hello Kitty Lion Necklace

Fun fact: I met Onch at Hello Kitty Con at his birthday party. He was there with Paul Frank.

I still pop into his live sales on Palmstreet. He’s really kind and actually remembered meeting me, which surprised me because I was pretty drunk. It seemed like a positive interaction though.

I had to source this necklace secondhand since it was a limited run. I love yellow gold, and this just felt like a piece that belonged with me.

HK Decoden Brush

I made this for myself after a friend saw the first decoden brush I ever made.

That first one was made with random cabochons and a dollar store brush. I wasn’t in love with it. I was actually kind of embarrassed so I shelved the idea.

But when my friend saw it, she thought it was the coolest thing ever. That gave me the confidence to try again.

This version uses a Wet Brush base and a lot more thought before placing everything. I’ve had it for over six years and nothing has fallen off.

I made a few others that I never ended up selling. For now, I’ll just keep them.

Conclusion

I picked these cute things after doing a quick sweep of my place.

I’m realizing that cute is something I never really let go of, and I’m okay with that.

I also started this series thinking I wouldn’t have enough to share. Now I’m realizing there’s actually a lot here.

My collections aren’t grand, but they are intentional. I remember where everything came from and why I kept it.
