Kawaii Box – July 2015 | thekatnoise.com Review

Kawaii Mailed to My Door? Yes Please!!!

So, I’ve always fancied trying this mail subscription box service. Unfortunately, I was never in a position to afford something this lovely. I am now in a much better position and couldn’t resist this opportunity.  Some people think they are a bit of a fad, subscription boxes in general. Since I’ve last done some googling on this sort of subject matter, many other subscription boxes have popped up. I decided to go with the Kawaii Box of www.kawaiibox.com because the price was good for its claimed content and it seems to be the most popular.

Before I begin my review on my July Kawaii Box, I want to let my readers know that I purchased this subscription on my own with my own money. This is review is simply my own opinions and honest thoughts. I paid for their one year subscription. I will be receiving 13 boxes total. The additional box is the incentive to paying for one year upfront.

If you can’t wait till the end, here is the time-lapse video of the unboxing. My first impressions are in the blog post.

From Asia to America | Where is my Box?

I was a little worried at first because of some of the comments I read on their site several comments where customers were looking for their boxes or they simply didn’t receive their last box of their subscription period. From the initial shipment, I was kept in the loop the whole time. I was notified via email of my tracking number which covered its international and domestic postal stops. I was never concerned that I may not receive my box.

My box was shipped July 30th and I received it August 25th (26 days) which is a bit slower than their 2 week claim on their FAQ page. Considering the shipping is free and the simple fact they are being dispatched from Singapore, this is something that I can understand.

Upon arrival, I was surprised by its size. The box measures 10 x 6 x 2 inches. For some reason, I thought the box would be bigger. I looked at other pictures of previous Kawaii Boxes on their site and on instagram and I guess once it’s opened with its content displayed, it just has a rather larger appeal. This is just me being an annoying princess. haha. I think it’s actually great that their packing skills shine which actually cuts down on waste and ends up being better for the environment.

The Unboxing | Breath Holding, Begin!

I figure, since I will be receiving 12 more of these boxes I will try to keep the product review format. I will take my own photo of the kawaii goods in my box, number them in the photo and evaluate the items one at a time as listed on the Kawaiibox website. These are first impressions, not full-blown reviews. I’ll probably pick a few items to highlight in a future post, but for now, these are my impressions based on the packaging and whatnot. I am also using google translate on my iPhone to help me decipher what some of the packaging says. Here we go!

In July Kawaii Box included these 11 kawaii products.
The hottest summer ever measured? Nah… More likely the cutest summer ever! The July box included some cuteness for everyone. Candy, stickers, stationery and even a coaster. Here is a full list of items included in the July 2015 Kawaii Box:

Kracie DIY Chain Candy Set
Squishy Doughnut Mirror
Dessert Eraser
Kawaii Toast Coaster
Pastel Pearl Bracelet
Korean Glitter Glue Set
Rilakkuma Sticky Notes
Mushroom Mini Plush
Cute Korean Pencil Set
Flake Seal Stickers
Alpaca Keychain

numberedIMG_3728Upon opening my box, I was greeted with a postcard that said “Thank You.” It’s easy to take these little things for granted, but this simple gesture got me excited. The items were wrapped with tissue paper that had the Kawaii Box logo all over it.

  1. Kracie DIY Chain Candy Set – The idea is cute, you use candy links to make a bracelet or necklace. This Japanese candy product does contain gelatin and milk, so if you’re a vegetarian/vegan, you may not want to consume this product.
  2. Squishy Doughnut Mirror – Even though you can’t hear it in the video, I am laughing and swooning over this item. The idea is ridiculously cute. Definitely my favorite item of the box which even surprised me!
  3. Dessert Eraser – I’m not sure what desert mine is supposed to be (maybe chocolates?) but its a nice size and weight. I’ll probably give this to my God Daughter to use at school.
  4. Kawaii Toast Coaster – I made this guy dance on the video, It reminded me of the Hello Kitty Wooden Coasters I bought at Hello Kitty Con. A super cute coaster is nice, but two would have been nicer.
  5. Pastel Pearl Bracelet – I don’t know if this is Korean or Japanese, but we all can say this bracelet is CUTE! It has a nice weight to it and it isn’t too big. I have ridiculous baby wrists so this really made me happy!
  6. Korean Glitter Glue Set – Goodness, so lovely with unique colors. I love glitter and since I’ve started to pour resin pieces, I’m definitely going to utilize the confetti like glitter
  7. Rilakkuma Sticky Notes – I’ve seen and had many stationary items like this one. I have been to Japan and the Philippines and I definitely have gone overboard with purchases like these. Great for those collegiate students who aren’t afraid to sport a cute side!
  8. Mushroom Mini Plush – The Japanese translation on the front of the tag came back as “Character Kino Mushroom Mascot.” This little guy reminds me of the Mario Bros 1up. The back of the tag is basically a note of warning and usage. Don’t wash it. If it get frayed or torn, discontinue use and supervise around little ones.
  9. Cute Korean Pencil Set – Good old school pencils! So cute! I couldn’t get much information based off the Korean text, except the product disclosure and use.
  10. Flake Seal Stickers – 71 stickers in this cute pillow box. These stickers are cute, but I am a bit jealous of the others who got characters that I’m more familiar with. Still that’s a whole lot of stickers!
  11. Alpaca Keychain – SO CUTE! Nicely packaged and straight forward. I’m a big fan of keychains. Whenever I travel I get one, even if it doesn’t have anything to do with where I am. I always remember where they’re from. I love the pastels and the Alpacas!

Kawaii Conclusion

Over all, the whole box is super kawaii! If I did have anything to say for opportunities to improve I’m thinking 2 specific things:

  1. It would be nice to have the chance to fill out some sort of preference profile. For example, I know many vegetarians that would turn down the chance to eat candy containing gelatin.
  2. A lot of these items had tags that stated they were made in China. I know I’m being horribly picky, but I would feel better if the wording on the Kawaii Box site stated that the items I’m receiving are exclusively sold in Japan & Korea. The Home page states that the items are from Japan & Korea. I found that this implied they were made there.

I’m looking forward to receiving my next Kawaii Box. I’ll do the same thing, maybe I’ll leave in my reactions. There were people swearing, so I didn’t want to offend anyone so I just removed the video audio. haha. Follow me on instagram: @thekatnoise or leave me comments here. I’m always up to something!
